We had been watching the weather for weeks leading up to Kristin and Jacob’s wedding day, hoping the forecast would change. Of course, the one day it truly monsooned was the day of their wedding. The morning started with getting-ready photos, and as soon as the clouds rolled in, it got dark fast! Luckily, Kristin’s mom had the foresight to buy clear umbrellas for guests. This ended up making the photos even more fun! As the ceremony approached at Brenner’s on the Bayou, we all kept refreshing the radar, trying to time things right. It looked like we should stick with the scheduled time because the rain was only going to get worse—but the weather app had other plans! This rainy wedding day in Houston ended up being so dreamy. I was honored to be able to capture it!
A Six-Minute Downpour Ceremony | A Rainy Wedding Day in Houston
Kristin and Jacob had planned for an outdoor ceremony with no backup plan since their venue was a restaurant. Just as Kristin walked down the aisle, the skies opened up. We got hit with the heaviest rain of the entire day! Had we waited just 15 minutes, it might have lightened up. Instead, their entire ceremony—from the first step down the aisle to their first kiss as husband and wife—lasted a total of six minutes. The rain was coming down so hard that you couldn’t even hear what was being said, and everyone was completely drenched, umbrellas and all. I had to get creative and rig my fanny pack to hold my umbrella in place so I could shoot freely without it getting in the way. Despite the chaos, Kristin and Jacob embraced it, and their photos turned out so unique and full of emotion!
A Celebration to Remember From A Houston Wedding Day
After the ceremony, everyone rushed to dry off and warm up before heading into the reception to celebrate. The rain may have soaked every single guest, but it didn’t put a damper on the joy of the day. And in true iconic fashion, Kristin and Jacob ended their night with a Taco Bell stop! Because what better way to wrap up a wedding day than with some late-night tacos? Unfortunately, Taco Bell isn’t a fan of wedding photography, and we were politely asked to leave before we could document the moment.
